Danny Mellin is a teenage singer/songwriter from Oxfordshire in the UK.
Danny started playing guitar at the age of seven. His love for music developed over the years and soon formed a band with his school friends whilst still only nine years old.
In 2016, Danny started his YouTube channel, covering popular chart hits whilst developing his own song writing in the background.
2017 was a busy and very successful year for Danny, playing at a number of local summer music festivals, open mic nights and winning the local talent show, Witney's Got Talent. November saw the release of Danny's debut single, Without You.
The debut EP, Wake Me Up, was released on the 26th January 2018, and Danny picked up the new year where he left off, playing various gigs locally in Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire.
A very busy summer saw the release of 2 new singles; Why and No More and also saw Danny play over 50 gigs within 5 months. As well as a number of private bookings and various pub and club gigs, there were many appearances at many local music festivals and summer events. Including opening The Witney Music Festival on the Main Stage.
Danny's second EP Holding On was released in September at a launch event at the Rapture music store. This was followed by playing to his biggest audience to date –10,000 people at Oxford’s South Park for the Firework display on the JACK FM stage . On the same night as this show, Danny was featured for the first time on BBC Introducing with an interview and a play of Without You.
Danny was also invited to play for a BBC Children In Need Concert for BBC Radio Oxford – Kat’s Big Night out for Pudsey. This was followed up with a live session on air at the Breakfast Show where Danny played a version of Spread Your Wings.
2018 ended as busy as it began with a number of local public and private bookings.
Danny spent the first couple of months of 2019 in the studio writing a batch of new songs that took his songwriting in a slightly different direction, moving away from the acoustic ballad to a more vibrant and energetic space. The first of these songs You and Me was released in July and the follow-up Emily released in October. Both tracks were released with YouTube videos directed by Jake Olive.
Danny enjoyed a very full and busy year of local gigs and festivals. Highlights included; supporting Blue Rose Code on the Oxford date of their UK tour, BBC Introducing stage at Witney Music Festival, Nor Lye Festival, Queen's Festival, Libfest 2019, BBC Countryfile Live at Blenheim Palace and a mini-tour of Scotland finishing up playing his debut show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Another couple of big highlights for Danny was opening for Jake Clemons (sax player for Bruce Springsteen's E-Street Band) on his solo UK tour at the O2 Academy in Oxford and winning the chance to play alongside Rowan Atkinson on the bill of a charity concert at Christ Church Cathedral.
The next time Danny played the O2 Academy Oxford was to debut his new band. Supporting Little Brother Eli, Danny and his band played a set of brand new material as well as new arrangements of his back catalogue, including a short acoustic set.
Danny had a really exciting 2020 planned before COVID-19 struck! He had been back in the studio with his new band and a new producer and looking forward to a year of new releases, exciting gigs and festivals. Despite the difficult times, Danny and the band did manage to get into the studio between lockdowns and released three singles through the year.
All ready to go again in 2021
